AND THE RIGHTEOUS LIARS
MINI PRESS PAGE
Although a fresh face in the R&B and soul scene Lacy Kay and The Righteous Liars were recently awarded Jazz Act of The Year 2019, from The New England Music Awards. Genre-splicing flavors of funk, classic soul and modern jazz, they bring hard grooves with lush atmospheres to the stage.
Lacy Kay is from south of London, UK. After emigrating to the Northeast USA, it was there Lacy (vocals and lyrics) connected with band mates, Aaron Robertson (drums), Moira Applebaum (keys), and Matthew Edwards (bass).
At times hard to pinpoint their exact genre, energetic live performances have drawn comparisons to Amy Winehouse, Hiatus Kaiyote. With their two studio recorded mini-album volumes you can hear the inspirations of Adele, Paloma Faith and Lianne La Havas.
Although female lead both on stage and off the band writes as a collabrotive collective, each member pulling from their unique music backgrounds and inspirations.
Half way through their released mini-album series, a music concept devised by Lacy, listeners can hear with each Volume, X, Vol.I and O, Vol.II the story unfold of a traumatic loss of love, romantically and with ones self. The lyrics offer naked questioning with brutal candor on a matter most can relate to. With four and a half songs, each volume goes through the evolving emotions of realization, hurt, anger, and self acceptance.
On the last day of 2019 Lacy Kay was awarded her first International Film Festival Award, 'Milano Mobile, Italia' for her direction and editing on their music video 'Without You' (below)
The band are entering 2020 with a Februaruy live-to-viynl session with record label Leesta Vall Sounds, in Brooklyn. As well as writing and preparing songs for volume III of the mini album series.
