LACY KAY AND THE RIGHTEOUS LIARS are a fresh face in the R&B and soul scene. With genre-splicing flavors of funk, classic soul and modern jazz, LKRL bring hard grooves and lush atmospheres to the stage. Lacy Kay grew up south of London, UK immersed in soul music and brings with her the compelling story telling of the genre delivered in smoky vocal tones. After an international move to the Northeast, it was there where Lacy (vocals and lyrics) connected with band mates, Aaron Robertson (drums), Moira Applebaum (keys), and Matthew Edwards (bass). Writing as a collaborative collective, each band member pulls from their unique music backgrounds and inspirations.
Having drawn comparisons to Amy Winehouse and Hiatus Kaiyote. A recent release of live track “Fk Yourself” shows the band moving through several time signatures and tempo feels, while the lyrics offer naked questioning with brutal candor. Known for their energetic live performances, LKRL recently bared all and recorded two raw, one take, live tracks in Rhode Island; "Fk Yourself" and "Holding Back Tears". Both songs were released over summer 2019 with the accompanying live videos which can be viewed on YouTube.
Lacy Kay and The Righteous Liars were recently awarded Jazz Act of The Year 2019, from The New England Music Awards. The band are now currently preparing to go into the studio to record Volume III of their four part mini-album series. A music concept which was devised by Lacy Kay when healing from the aftermath of a breakup. Each mini-album encompasses the vulnerability, growth and evolving emotions one goes through after a broken relationship. Song by song each mini-album tells the story and the evolving emotions of realization, hurt, anger and self acceptance. Listners can sink back in to each mini-album, and let the four and a half songs take you into the depths of your emotions. X, Volume I and O, Volume II can be streamed on Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon as well as all other music platforms.
Now looking towards Volume III, the band can be seen performing live through-out the NorthEast and are preparing for an East Coast tour in 2020.
